A Robots tale

Updated: Dec 4, 2018

Instances s from an animated short project,a robot wakes up from a stasis only to find the world that he once knew ..is gone.

1: Upon joining the project in October of this year, I had put before me the task of making an addition the project. What was requested was the design of a hover bike .Jumping in feet first and hitting the ground running , the design was one that echoed a node or two of past influences. The hover speedster in Star Wars came to mind, once the design was drafted on paper it was here that the 3D modelling came into play .

Before hand my contribution was one that gave a 3D visual to part of the environment , the given description explained how and where the environment came to be.

A selection of islands on rock formations in space, almost like life was formed on a meteorite debris trail . Scattered in a manner that allowed these islands to be formed.

The initial draft above was in Z Brush , but this soon evolved further to be developed in other 3D software. Here is a selection of the images created .

On this island is a factory that has long since seen any working order to it , a robot is jolted from it stasis and realises that it is alone . Via his movement things around him slowly begin to turn and move into action once again. A ship built within the era of the robot is stirring to life once again as well it is waiting outside the factory for the robots return.

This story has been drafted by colleagues on this project .

Noussayba , Iva, Ross , Reras , Keiran and myself.

The intial draft of the hover bike , which has now evolved in to a ship.

2: The evolution .

After establishing the story and what was to be achieved, we all focused on the depth of design that was to brought to this piece. By this we all had elaborated on our chosen and given design. My choice of rendering to bring the ship/bike to life was that of Autodesk Maya and Luxion Keyshot

Giving detail to this was by way of a HDR environment, this allowed a photo realistic feel. in the past I have experimented with architectural renders, this was to see how realistic I could get the quality of the render regardless of the setting.

The concept of a steam punk driven island is displayed here, within the pacing of the cogs and the merging of metal and rock.

Next it was shown how the bike/ship may fit in with this environment, given the task I feel that what can be achieved is a decent portrayl of a rebooted environment.

Trying different colours via trial and error, this one was the first choice. But in hindsight it works better for a functioning vehicle. Though the ship/bike has been unused for a lengthy amount of time it can be seen to be functioning once again . All via the robot being awakend by chance.

ree

Keeping to the original draft was the main goal,as can be seen here in a screenshot via Autodesk Maya. A simple but i dare say pliable design, next to cater for the creation of the images within space.

3: Space influenced imagery

ree

With the agreed imagery rendered , now it put forward to give the images a different perspective.

Above what can be seen is a render to explain the look and feel of the vehicle. That being said it needed to be shown in the realm of space , only to coincide with the story line.

ree

a different angle that relays the weight of the craft being light, outside of this the space rendered creation is what was needed....So here they are.

ree

With the use of photoshop and 3D rendering we have a clean cut good description of the created concept.

Along with the island views in space also..........
